Your own Swarm node
No middleman: Nook runs a Swarm light node on your machine and talks to the network directly.
Beta · for macOS, Windows and Linux
Store files, share them privately, message people and publish websites — on Swarm, a decentralized network with no servers in between.
Free · open source
Beta software, provided as-is under the BSD 3-Clause licence, with no warranty. You hold your own keys and funds; nobody, including us, can recover them for you.
Why Swarm
Nook runs a Swarm node on your computer, so your files live on the Swarm network, not in someone's data center.
Independent nodes hold your files, not one company.
Your files stay online when your computer is off.
Whoever opens your link gets exactly what you uploaded.
Any Swarm app can open your files, not just Nook.

How it works
Nook keeps your files on Swarm: a network of independent nodes, not one company’s servers.
Your file is cut into small chunks of 4 KB, each with its own address, and the whole file gets one address you can share.
The chunks are spread across the nodes of the Swarm network. Each chunk is kept by several nodes, so one going offline loses nothing.
You pay upfront for as long as you want to keep it, and node operators get paid to hold on to your chunks. Close your laptop; your file stays online.
Your node asks the network for each chunk. The request is passed from node to node until it reaches one that holds it, and the chunks come back and rebuild the file.
What you can do
No middleman: Nook runs a Swarm light node on your machine and talks to the network directly.
Choose how much space you need and for how long. Turn on auto-extend to keep the drive alive. Nook notifies you before it extends, and if your funds are running low.
Delete files from a drive and get the space back for new ones. Useful for content that changes over time. Currently in beta.
Encrypted drives you can share with the people you choose — and revoke access again whenever you want.
Drop in a folder and it's live — with a permanent address that stays the same when you update, and your ENS name.
Message other Nook users. Encrypted on your device, stored on Swarm, readable only by the two of you.
FAQ
Nook itself is free. Storage on Swarm is paid upfront in xBZZ for a size and a length of time you choose — no monthly subscription. Small amounts of xDAI cover network fees.
Swarm is a decentralized storage and communication network. Files are split into chunks and kept by many independent nodes, so no single company holds your data.
Swarm ID is a decentralized identity for apps built on Swarm: one account you create and manage yourself, and use to sign in across Swarm apps. You sign in with a passkey, an Ethereum wallet or a password. Every key comes from your account's recovery phrase, each app gets its own keys so two apps never share one, and your account can be restored from Swarm on a new device. In Nook, Swarm ID is how other Nook users find and message you. Keep your recovery phrase safe: it's the only way back into your account.
Nook is in beta. It works, and we use it daily — but features change and bugs happen. Keep only small amounts in the node's wallet.
